Local manawhenua Kāi Tahu wahine Amber Bridgman is the designer and director of Dunedin’s Tribal Couture Māori Fashion Brand KAHUWAI.

KAHUWAI is an award-winning, authentic, sustainable fashion label that interweaves traditional Māori art practices with high-end haute couture.

Straight off the runways from Paris and London Fashion Weeks, her work is unique with hand-printed garments, and one-off jewellery pieces making this brand highly desirable and original.

Traditionally trained under Māori weaving experts and Maori art specialists, Designer Amber Bridgman uses traditional weaving techniques and local Kāi Tahu resources which are unique to this landscape.

Amber has shown her work on the catwalk at NZ Fashion Week, Melbourne, Paris and London Fashion Weeks, and in museums. She also teaches her ancient knowledge through museums and also teaches Cultural Appropriation and Design at Otago Polytechnic | Te Pukenga Fashion Design School.

She also designs and makes for theatre, film and television.
