SIRI MAJAROEN

Parsons School of Design, New York City, USA

2001

Siri Majaroen's collection, “2001”, is designed to encourage open dialogue around sexual expression and to promote sex education through fashion. 2001 holds meaning to the designer, as this was the year she moved from Thailand to Germany and was exposed to a very different outlook on sexuality and nudity. Her designs bring to light the internal, the emotional, and the socially taboo.

Majaroen developed circular textiles by repurposing old T-shirts and deadstock fabrics, creating monochromatic, avant-garde pieces with tactile textures and intricate embroidery. She further challenges norms by upcycling donated underwear and tights, embracing visible wear to normalise body fluids and confront societal shame. These sanitised garments were transformed into outerwear, shifting intimate items into public view and redefining their cultural context.
